I was born at Sudbury Fruit Farm in 1941. My grandfather was the manager of the farm, which was owned by Mr Mortimer, who lived on the Cumnor Hill,in Oxford. I went to school in Longworth when Mr Jones was the headmaster, and Mrs (Owen?) was the teacher of the lower form. There were only the two teachers, and two forms. I left in 1951 and moved to Oxford to live with my Mum, Lily Hickmott, who had been widowed when I was 3 years old. I have recently been in contact with Tim Jones, whose family I remember well from my time in the village. My Aunt, Mrs Doris Neale, is still in the village, and I often visit her. I love driving through the village, it is so beautiful, but also for me, sad - no 'Rant and Tombs' no 'New Inn' no 'Frees' no 'Broughton's shop' no 'Red Row' and not a fruit tree in sight at Sudbury!

Alison (my sister) told me about this website - its great. I went to Faringdon Girls school while we lived in Longworth. I remember the Pine woods, which I know are no longer there. I used to go there with Julia Petts and make camps! Also swimming in the river at Duxford. I also enjoyed cycling to Charney Bassett(I think thats where we went) to play tennis. I was so sorry to leave the village when my Dad moved to another church.

Tim Jones sent me this web site. I seem to be at the age of yearning for nostalgia. I lived in Longworth for about 5 years when my Dad was minister there - Rev Albert Jacques.

Although not born in Logworth, I moved there at the grand old age of 4 days, from Liverpool. I lived in the Post Office Stores, with my mother (Barbara Osborns as she now is, my Uncle David Free, and my grandparents, William and Molly Free. The shop was the focal point of the village, and was staffed by the most wonderful people, many of whom are inevitably still in the village. Although I have roamed far afield since, and accepting that I only actually lived in the village for 6 years, it is my home. So there!
