The Future's Bright........

Friendly’s

Support – Very good through the season, BUT we still had 5 cancelled games through having not enough names, 3 by ourselves and 2 by the opponents.
Results – Out of a total of 26 games played we were successful in 18 games and had 8 loses. Overall we finished the season with a shot difference of plus 278. Well done. We also retained both the cups against Bicester & the Percy Moulder cup against Begbroke.
Bring & Share – Again this was very successful throughout the season, providing visiting clubs with a fulfilling tea after the match.

National’s

2007 proved to be, compared to previous seasons, a rather successful season in the National competitions with the club reaching the Area Quarterfinals in both the Top Club & Double Rink, being defeated by Banbury Borough in both games. The players involved can hold their heads high, as we were beat by a team who is one of the most successful teams in the Double Rink and who also won the Top Club this year.

League / League Cup

Well our campaign to defend our title in the League Cup got off to the worst possible start with the team losing to City & County A in the prelim round. We then got off to a stuttering start in the league. In our first game, again against C&C A, with two ends to go we were looking at getting a 5-1 result in our favour, but unfortunately C&C thought differently and won the last two ends to give them a 5-1 victory! However we picked our games up and after a hard fought season managed to finish Runners Up behind Banbury Central, who managed to win the league for a 4th consecutive season.
Individual Success
At this point I would just like to comment on the individual successes the club has had. Firstly Nick Rae-Welsh (the bowler formerly known as Nick Welsh), who managed to not only qualify for the National Championships in the Singles but also managed to play his way to the Quarter finals while he was there, well done Nick. Secondly Howard Watts who not only won the Club Championship to qualify for a place in the County Champion of Champions, but he also managed to win that as well. Also Howard along with Nathan Lewis managed to get down to Worthing in the National Mixed 4s, they won their first game but unfortunately crashed out in the Quarter finals, well done lads. The Jack Stow Trophy is again staying within the club when Kelvin Woodward, Chris Quainton & Craig Nicoll performed excellent to win this event. The same triple were joined by Shaun Claridge to reach the Semi finals of the County Rinks where they missed out on a trip to Worthing. Although Shaun made up for this disappointment by winning the County Under 25 singles to book a place down at Worthing.
Club Success
The club also enjoyed success in the Evenlode Trophy where, after a long weekend of bowls, it went down to the final end between Carterton & Banbury Central with Carterton winning the end and handing the trophy to the team of Shaun Claridge, Norman Rae, Nathan Lewis, Nick Rae-Welsh & Howard Watts and also £400 to club funds. We also reached the Quarterfinals of the Hawker cup where we lost out to C&C A.
