Margaret Godden Reveals New Manor Ground Solution
In response to the opposition that has been demonstrated by locals, since the June 2000. Proposals to redevelop the Oxford United site as a new private hospital and flats have come to have prompted local interests including members from all parties in discussion of alternative tentative solutions to what should be built on the Manor Ground site. Liberal Democrat Councillor Margaret Godden made public the results of such discussions recently in Headington Quarry Focus.(January 2001)
Although at present, the details are sketchy, the main aim would be to relocate Headington Library and St. Andrews School to the football ground. The existing school site, it has been suggested by members of various Headington interests could be redeveloped into a mixed-use development of housing, retail and commercial space. The existing Library building it has been suggested by certain business interests could be converted into modern office accommodation for rent. Additional development on the Manor Ground it has been recommended by members of Headington Forum could include a new community, art, leisure and sports centre for the benefit of Headington citizens, together with some low-density housing.
If such tentative proposals, can gain the support of local citizens, business and development interests, agencies together with the required political support and approval, then many in Headington will feel that we are at last beginning to develop Headington for benefit of its residents.
