Proposed Headington Business Person of the Year Annual Award

Headington Forum Memo

Editor: Nicholas Newman
To: Headington Community Development Group
Date: 03/03/01
Re: Proposed Headington Business Person of the Year Annual Award
1.Aims:
1.1. To generate new media opportunities, in order to promote Headington on behalf of various local interests, including the HF, HBA and HCDG.
1.2 . To promote positive media interest in the Headington Area.
1.3 .To divert the current negative media image of Headington due to the saga of Oxford United.
2.0. Sponsorship opportunities: provides a new sponsorship vehicle for meeting PR goals of potential sponsors, such as improving the awareness of the goods and services provided by the sponsors.

3.0. Sponsorship commitment required:
3.1. At least a bottle of champagne and flowers.
3.2. The restaurant where the award dinner takes place could sponsor the dinner.
3.3.In terms of operational aid at least some logistical and fiscal advice in running this annual event.
3.4. In terms of actual prizes it has been suggested that if the sponsor was engaged in financial services the prize could be free financial advice for a year, or a holiday from a travel agency, tickets to a play etc.

4.0. Market opportunities: opportunity to reach all members of the local business community (450+) and local population (15,000+).

5.0. Details:
5.1. A competition that will judge how good an entrepreneur and civically responsible person the competitor has been.
5.2. An award ceremony and dinner, with a prize such as a bottle of champagne perhaps, (money generated from the dinner and sponsorship could be given to a local good cause, to be decided upon, or used as a fund to finance future projects). In order to generate further media publicity a local celebrity could award the prize, and this event could be used as a location for other competitions etc.

6.0. Promotional considerations: Expect press coverage in local radio, TV and newspapers, specialist journals and community papers and websites.

7.0. Estimated publicity value: £100,000
