About the Society

The Society was founded in 1971 with the object of promoting an interest in local history, architecture and archaeology and to research, compile and publish local historical records.

With a membership of approximately 90, the Society meets on the last Tuesday of each month at 8pm. in the St.John Ambulance House High Street, Kidlington. The programme of speakers covers a wide range of interests and the quarterly members' newsletter includes a precis of each of the talks.

Visits are included in the programme, a whole day visit in early summer and a local evening visit in July. Members also enjoy an annual Dinner with a guest speaker.

The Society's first hard-back publication, `KIDLINGTON IN CAMERA' was a huge success and a reprint was necessary after the first printing of 950 was sold in five months. More recently, KIDLINGTON IN CAMERA VOLUME TWO has repeated the success of the first volume.

The Society has an extensive archive collection, including over 1,500 photographs, newspaper cuttings and many documents. Members have also made about 60 recordings of village people speaking of their memories of earlier days in Kidlington,
