Classical Music in St Peter's Church, Wallingford
Music at St Peter's is a series of concerts of classical chamber and choral music, given on Saturday evenings between May and September by professional musicians in the eighteenth-century church of St Peter in Wallingford. The acoustics are excellent, and the concerts regularly receive enthusiastic reviews in the Oxford Times. The 2008 season focuses particularly on the Piano Trio, with trios for Horn, Violin and Piano and for Clarinet, Cello and Piano as well as for the standard combination of violin, cello and piano. Three string quartet concerts and an anticipatory celebration of Haydn's bi-centenary complete the series.The season includes:
The Lichtental Trio playing music by Brahms, Beethoven and BartokThe Meryon Trio playing Brahms, Glinka, Beethoven and Bruch
The Martinu String Quartet with Schubert and BeethovenThe Rautio Piano Trio playing Beethoven, Tchaikovsky and HaydnThe Sacconi String Quartet playing Haydn, Vaughan Williams and Ravel
The Max Brod Trio from Prague playing Mozart, Martinu and Dvorak
The Prometheus Piano Trio playing Saint-Saëns, Beethoven and Brahms
The Cappa String Quartet playing Haydn, Walton, Schulhoff and Mendelssohn
The Thames Consort performing Haydn's "Nelson" Mass
Tickets are £12 on the door or £10 in advance. Season tickets for all concerts are also available.
