2001
2001 COMPETITION The annual Dave Jones Memorial Knockout Competition was held on 16th December 2001. The Competition was held at Pistol Petes in Brackley for the first time with 38 players entering. Some of Oxfordshires finest competed, including: Tim Williamson, Isty Afzal, Dave Lewis, Grayson Fisher, Brian Carrol, Julian Wilde and Hazel Partlett. Along with some relatively unknown players, some of who did excellently.
The biggest upset of the day, must have been last years winner (Tim Williamson) and runner up (Isty Afzal) being drawn out against each other in the first round!
By the quarter-finals the whole lower half of the draw was made up of Carterton players, which included Grayson Fisher (winner twice before). Fighting against his team mates, Grayson made it through to the final after beating Steve Lewis in the semi. In the other half Kevin McIlroy beat Kevin Down in his semi to make it to the final. The final was a great match to watch, the tension was high and the battle for the silverware was being fought. Grayson was the eventual winner of this tense match after beating Kevin 6-3. Many congratulations to Grayson as this is now his third time of winning this annual event!! Pistol Petes donated a large bottle of Jack Daniels for a plate competition. This was open to Prelim and 1st round losers of the main event. The winner was Fuz (Martin Zolkiewicz) after beating Rob Carter in the final. Drinks are on him!!
