A very successful exhibition on July 12th and 13th took the place of the July meeting of the club. It is estimated that over 400 people visited the old school room on the two afternoons and judging by the many smiles which were seen, people seemed to thoroughly enjoy remembering their school days and being reunited with friends they hadn't seen for some time.
Rita and Brian Ford displayed some of their memorabilia from times gone by and there was a constant demand for the experience of writing with a quill pen. I didn't see anyone with the dunce's hat on so everyone must have worked well.
Although we tried to cover many years of the school's history there were still gaps where we were short of photographs. If anyone has any pre-1970 photographs we could copy for the archives we would be very grateful. Stan Baker or I could copy them.
Five people managed to guess the number of words in the book exactly so a draw had to be made and Nancy Homewood was the winner of the quilt with David Beckett the runner-up and the winner of a bottle of wine donated by CopyCat. The answer was 66,666. I was amazed when this number appeared on the computer when the book was finally finished. £75 was raised through the competition for the 'beetle' fund.
Sales of the 'History of Radley School' book were very pleasing and it was nice to see so many families walking away with a copy of it. There are still copies of it available from me and my telephone number is below.
I am sure village residents and visitors from further afield appreciated the efforts club members had made beforehand, and on the day, and after viewing the exhibition they were grateful for the refreshments which were served in the Church Room. I would like to thank all the members who worked so hard to make the exhibition such a lovely experience.
