THE RADLEY RETIREMENT GROUP TODAY
 | Monthly Meetings
Monthly Meetings are held on the second Tuesday each month(except December) at the Village Hall at 2.00 pm (doors open at 1.30 pm). The January meeting has traditionally been reserved for an Auction Sale, when members can dispose of surplus presents, bad buys and other unwanted items on a 50/50 basis. The Annual General Meeting is held in March, when the posts of retiring Officers and Committee members are filled. The July meeting is the Summer Meeting and the December meeting (held on the third Tuesday) is the Christmas Party. For all other meetings speakers are booked, and talks are scheduled to last about ¾ hour. A business meeting, which usually lasts about 20 minutes, is held and raffle prizes are drawn before the speaker takes the stand. After the talk tea, coffee and biscuits are served.
Committee Meetings
The Committee meets monthly at the Village Hall, usually on the first Tuesday of the month. The Officers (i.e. Chairman, Vice-Chairman, Secretary, Social Secretary and Treasurer) are ex officio members of the Committee and the elected members of the Committee each have specific duties assigned to them on appointment (such as Programme Secretary, Catering Officer, Raffle Organiser and Bookings Officer).
Speakers
A programme of speakers is arranged by the Programme Secretary and is printed in the Membership Card issued to members when joining the Group or renewing their annual subscription.
Outings and Visits
These are arranged by Members of the Committee and are printed in the Membership Card. Mr. Doug Rawlinson was Social Secretary since the founding of the original Radley Pensioners' Association in 1989 but retired from this post at the end of 2006. In recent years popular features of the outings and visits programme have been an annual group holiday (sometimes abroad), a day at the seaside, a pre-Christmas festive break, and a long weekend. There is at least one outing every month, usually on a Tuesday, and most visits are quickly fully subscribed, with a waiting list.
Anniversary Lunch
This is held in mid-January each year to celebrate the founding of the original Association in 1989. For the first few years a lunch was booked at an Abingdon Restaurant, but nowadays the event is held at the Village Hall with outside caterers. It is always well supported, with more than 70 members attending. Lunch is followed by entertainment, and then tea or coffee. |
