Trustees: Who are they?
 | The ‘First Trustees’ (1) of The Raphael Pilgrimage were created by the Declaration of Trust [sometimes referred to as the Deed of Trust] dated 12th September 2002 and were named as T Wiltshire, M Logan and M Kelly.
(1)The Raphael Pilgrimage Declaration of Trust dated 12th September 2002. Introduction. |
|
Changes since the 'First Trustees'
 | | Subsequently T Wiltshire resigned as trustee and was replaced by K Scahill (19th September 2005), and M Kelly resigned on 19th June 2006 and was replaced by C Blackman in November 2006. M Logan retired as trustee and was replaced by Francis Hindle on 27th November 2007. |
|
Replacing trustees
 | | Following current practice the trustees select a replacement for a retiring trustee simply by looking for the ‘best person available’. This is an officially accepted method of recruitment, albeit undemocratic, but has resulted in trustees being referred to as ‘self-elected’. The method of appointing future trustees is a subject that is currently under consideration by the existing trustees. |
|
Period of appointment of trustees
 | It is not easy to find people who are prepared to give the time or who are willing to take on the personal and corporate responsibilities that go with such an appointment. Trustees are usually appointed for a 4-year period (2) and can then be re-appointed if willing and if invited. The Raphael Pilgrimage may wish to consider, collectively, how to make progress in this matter.

Declaration of Trust and trustees legal status
 | [For clarity: the Declaration of Trust is the Governing Document in terms of our legal status. The Constitution (which came into effect on 1st January 2005) was a set of ‘rules’ that formed a ‘derivation of authority’ from the trustees under ‘the powers conferred upon them by the Declaration of Trust.’ (5) It was using these same ‘powers’ that the trustees suspended the Constitution.]
