Welcome to the Church of the Sacred Heart
 | We have recently welcomed Fr Frederico, who will work with the Portuguese speaking community in our area. Welcome to our community. Our church is situated on Balfour Road on the corner of Sawpit Road, Blackbird Leys, Oxford. OX4 6BD Tel: (01865) 779658 Directions: (from Cowley junction of ring road) turn south along B480 Watlington Road. Turn fourth right into Cuddesdon Way, then second right into Balfour Road. ( a small sign now points into Balfour Rd) Look for the church on the left, and turn into Poulton Place to find the car park. The church is on the left hand side of Balfour Rd. Buses on no 1 and no. 5 routes pass the church every few minutes The car park is off a small turning called Poulton Place and is opened for masses on Sundays and Holy Days. Otherwise parking on street is not too difficult. The parish serves the area of Blackbird Leys and Greater Leys, and a large area of countryside beyond the city, including Garsington and Cuddesdon. We are seriously looking at the best way to evangelise this large and varied parish. We work in close cooperation with other local Christians in the Holy Family ecumenical church, and Leys Community church. "The House of my Heart for all peoples" Our church community is very varied and includes people from many races and nations. We hope to see you soon! May God bless you today.

Catholic Primary School ...
 | St John Fisher Catholic Primary School, Sandy Lane West, Littlemore
Headteacher: Mrs J. Milham
We support our school with our prayers all through the year, and mass has been celebrated for the whole school to start the new school year. Fr John Hancock from Littlemore is the chair of governors. There is a lovely display board in church now to help people catch a glimpse of school life and help them to decide which schools to look at and apply for. |

Statue of Our Lady...
Here is our statue of Our Lady, the Immaculate Conception. Fr David has a very close link with the Foyers de Charite, a worldwide movement of communities who live a common life and run retreats for conversion and renewal. They were founded by Pere Finet under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit through Marthe Robin, and are under the patronage of Our Lady For more information about the next retreat and other news, see www.foyers.org.uk
Further events will be organised in the parish, and in other parts of England. Please call Fr David for details, 01865 715571

Links with Blessed Dominic Barberi Parish, Littlemore
 | Our parish is closely linked with Blessed Dominic Barberi Parish, Littlemore. For several years the priest there was parish priest over both parishes, but now we are more like equal partners and cooperate closely.

Sawpit Road door, the outside of our church
 | The door on the corner of Sawpit Road and Balfour Road is often used for meetings and other events rather than for mass. When the church was first built it was the main way into a multipurpose hall where mass was also celebrated. Come to this door if you have arranged to see Fr David and ring the office bell. The postal address is Sacred Heart Catholic Church Sawpit Rd, Blackbird Leys, Oxford, OX4 6BD
This view is changing by the day! WE ARE ADDING A DISABLED LOO, COUNSELLING ROOM AND OTHER FACILITIES TO THE LEFT OF THIS ENTRANCE.. ALL CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE PROJECT ARE WELCOME. |

Our Catholic Secondary school for Oxford area, St Gregory the Gr

Young People in the parish
Our new pastoral council includes a number of young people working as a Youth Council to keep the concerns and contributions of children and young people at the forefront of parish life.
Childrens Liturgy on Sunday mornings during the first part of mass. Youth Group, for 11s and over, usually meets on the 4th Friday of the month at 7pm.
|
Pastoral Council
Our parish did not have a parish council for years, but at a Parish Meeting we decided to set up a consultative council which now meets a few times during the year to include the Finance Committee, youth Council and areas such as pastoral care and liturgy.
Our pastoral council attempts to reflect the variety of ages and backgrounds in our parish. Like all such councils in the Catholic Church the council is a consultative group to help the Parish priest to make well informed decisions.

Our new Building extension.... APPEAL FOR £75,000.00
Our new space has been blessed and opened during 6pm mass on Sunday 3rd February, by our dean, Fr Pat Armstrong. Our small church had never had a disabled access loo, and we were keen to provide one, so this promted us to look at our other facilites.
We also never had an appropriate room, on the ground floor, where the priest or anyone else could talk privately with one or a few people. The counselling room/small meeting room is wheelchair accesible and a useful resource for us and the wider community... contact us if you may be needing to use it.
Additional space for storage and for the sacristy helps the church and hall to be less cluttered, and makes preparing to celebrate mass calmer for the priest and altar servers.
For all this we will need at least £75,000 for the building costs, and other fees and charges, so if you can help us with a regular or one off donation we would be very grateful. We are working at raising all we can by fundraising events, and gift aiding our donations. Please contact Fr David at Sacred Heart, Sawpit Road, Oxford, OX4 6BD As well as various fundraising events you can still look forward to... more quiz nights!
In the summer we will have another sponsored SkyDive
tel 01865 779658 or e mail dm.hartley@tesco.net Many thanks, God bless, Fr David

Annual Intercultural Mass
Every December we celebrate this mass as a way of recognising the diversity of peoples in our parish right from its beginnings.
Last year it was on Sunday 9th December, and the celebrant was Br Michael Pooley, OFM Cap, who worked in the parish during his time preparing for ordination.
A big party followed the mass in the hall.
