How we play

Our equipment does not include just the handbells that we ring. We also have tables with foam pads and drapes. These allow us to keep the bells on the table that are not being rung (for example sharp and flat notes when we play in the key of C major). We also use the tables and pads to allow us to use mallets on the bells, in the manner of a xylophone, or to pluck the bells, in the manner of string instruments.

We play from music that is written in conventional notation. For those not accustomed to music notation we run beginners courses. People who have not read music for many years often find that it comes back to them after a short time.

Many British teams also play from number notation which is a form of tabulation for handbell groups.
