Wallingford

Wallingford Ringers draw their members from Wallingford, Didcot, Cholsey and various villages around and about. We have played in the town on a variety of occasions notably:

1 Wallingford Millennium concert.

Together with other Wallingford music groups we were invited to play at a Millennium concert in July 2000. This took place in the Castle Gardens as part of a week of celebrations. Despite the choice of time it rained while we were playing so we had the enjoyment of playing in the dry, under covers, while watching our audience sitting or standing under raised umbrellas!

2 Wallingford Millennium evening

Four of us contributed to the evening celebration of the Millennium on December 31st 1999. We played pieces in a small ensemble style including Scarborough Fair and some Medieval Carols. We even began by playing a short processional!

3 Wallingford Town Carol Service

In a number of years we have rung solo items during the town carol service. Pieces have included "Ring Out Wild Bells" and Panis Angelicus.

4 Town twinning

Wallingford is twinned with the town of Wallingford in the United States. We played a concert for the Royal British Legion Wallingford Branch attended also by a large contingent of the American visitors during twinning celebrations.

5 Wallingford Carnival

On several occasions Wallingford Ringers have contributed to the Music and Flowers celebration in St Mary's Church as part of the annual Wallingford Carnival.

6 Wallingford Victorian Night

Recently our trio group enjoyed playing at Wallingford's Victorian Evening. This involved our playing at two of the churches in the town, where we had a very good reception from those who heard us play.

7 Schools

Our trio group also played recently at a local infants school as part of their celebration of Christmas. The children greatly enjoyed seeing and hearing the bells as well as having the chance to try ringing a bell themselves.

8 Bunkfest

This year we performed on the Kinecroft sound stage at Wallingford own folk festival. We also gave a workshop to introduce people to handbell ringing.
