Claxton, Sand Hutton & District Annual Village Show
The Village Hall is a registered charity.
The Committee organise a number of events during the year for the benefit of the villagers.
One of the highlights of the year is the Village Show which this year will be on the 8th September at 2pm in the Village Hall, Sand Hutton.
This is a well supported event and last year saw 463 exhibits including 110 from children - mainly from the Primary School and the Wishing Well Playgroup in Sand Hutton.
There are classes in the Show for Vegetables, Fruit, Flowers and Plants, Cookery, Adult Crafts and Children's Classes.
A new idea this year is a "Murphy" Competition. A few months ago villagers were invited to buy a bucket and a seed potatoe - unnamed variety - and the rest is up to them as to how they grow it, feed it etc. On the day of the Show all buckets will be brought to the Village Hall and prizes will be awarded for the heaviest potatoe and the biggest yield. Over 80 entries were recorded. There is much speculation and secrecy on the cultivation of the potatoes and sabotage cannot be ruled out!
We welcome visitors to our Show. If you are in the area please look in. |
