Away at Lockton 2nds Homeguard Cup 1st Round
Kirkby lost the toss and were put in to bat on a good looking wicket with two short boundaries. Openers Charlton and Humphry both begun steadilly as the Lockton bowlers didnt give much away. After 12 overs, and the end of the opening bowlers spells, Kirkby were well placed at 44-0. At this point, both batsmen upped the pace and started to score for freely, Charlton in particular looked to score more freely and was quick onto anything too short or too full. The opening pair passed 100 for the second time in three partnerships shortly after 18 overs. Humphrey was first to fall, trapped LBW for a fine 40, he didn't contest the decision as he reveraled he was knawckered! Sean Walker came in and made a confident 22, while Charlton continued to attack. Charlton finallly fell, swiping across the line for 120, and the kirkby innings ended on a healthy 205-5.
With the ball, Fawcett again took early wickets, bowling his 6 overs for just 6 runs and 2 wickets. Wickets fell regulalry, with only Pete Robson offering any sort of resistance with a fine knock of 56. Asda Rivis took 3-17 off 6 overs, with the other 5 wickets being shared amongst numerous other bowlers. Indifferent fielding saw Lockton score more than the perhaps should, but after wrapping up the innings for 137, Kirkby progress intot he next round.
29.4.06 Home Vs Snainton 2nds
The first toss of the season was lost by Kirkby 2nds captain Martin Charlton, but Kirkby were asked to bowl first, which they had intended to do so anyway. Kirkby were missing a number of regular players due to work commitments, but still managed to field strong line up.
Durrant and the ever reliable Fish opened the bowling and restricted Snainton to 2 runs an over for the first 14 overs, making a couple of breakthroughs in the process. A special mention must go to Durrant who had a slip chance put down with only his fourth ball in a kirkby shirt. First change bowlers Charlton and Humphries came into the attack and wickets continued to fall as Snainton's middle order looked to increase the run rate. Charlton finishing with an expensive 2 for, and Humphries a tight 3 for. Durrant was brought back into the attack for a blast at the tailenders and wrapped up the innings with a 4 for. The kirkby fielding showed room for improvement, with occasional misfields and a couple of dropped catches.
The kirkby innings begun with openers Charlton and Humhpries taking their time and weighing up the Snainton bowling, both moving steadilly along into the 20's. At this point, Charlton looked to raise the tempo and began looking for the boundary more often. As he approached 50 he was dropped, and a few balls later ws bowled off a no-ball, at the other end Humphries never offered a chance to the eager Snainton fielders. The opening pair passed 100 after 17 overs, and soon wrapped up the win, meaning a fantastic start to the season gaining 16 points. Charlton finished on 70 not out, with Humphries on 36 not out.
