Recollections and Memories!

"RECOLLECTIONS"

A collection of memories and anecdotes from our school days back in the late 60's and early 70's.

Taken from our email exchanges, I have put them together and added comments to make interesting reading.
It is available in electronic form or on paper but not intended for general publication.

We are still looking for anecdotes and memories from the girls in Domestic Science to balance out the Woodwork stories!

PICTORIAL MEMORIES

If you have any pictorial memories which you would like to share, send them to me with the story and I can include them.

Below are items which I hope will jog your memories!

In Malton May 1974

Christine Brewer, Paula Seller, Linda (Andrew) and Susan (Brigham) in front of the famous Malton Town Guide. Many will remember it for its pushbuttons to light up the locations. Although it survived for many years, it has now gone and I am currently trying to find out what happened to it.

The Last Day at School (1974)

Joanna Thompson is holding up Paul Levesley.
Paul Goacher is hiding David Marsh and next to them is David Wilson. There are more photographs via the link below!

Car Treasure Hunt July 1974

Organised by Paul Goacher (on the Mini roof with David Marsh, Steve Cowham and David Wilson), the rally started in the Wentworth Street car park, free in those days. The first clue involved the Cross Keys where Kevin Arbuthnot used to live but the rest is now a blur in the memories of those involved. Andrew Elliott remembers hanging on to the back of Mike Hardy’s Lambretta scooter as they tore around the countryside. Other memories involve scattering villagers as they crossed the road between church and village hall and Dave Wilson almost rolling his Austin A40. Another incident involved reversing and a broken exhaust pipe. The halfway refreshment stop was the Middleton Arms in North Grimston, where this photograph was taken in the car park. The rally ended at the Spotted Cow and was won by Janet Marwood driving her father's "1800" with Richard Chandler as her navigator. The runner-up is not yet known. Mike Hardy on his scooter and navigator Andrew Elliott were third. The day ended with an impromptu party at Joanna Thompson's house. The winners were presented "with a small trophy that somebody had crafted from the silver paper contained in a packet of cigarettes".

and now for something completely different.....

Left to Right & Up and Down
Andrew Thompson, Paul Goacher, Paul Levesley, David Wilson,
John Wardle, Mike Hardy, Andrew Elliott, Steve Cowham,
Richard Chandler, Richard Duggleby
Front (and dead Scotsman)
Steve Hale

The story goes that each week there was a replay of the previous nights "Monty Python's Flying Circus" TV Show.

Those that had seen the show repeated the skits and when these photographs were taken it was just after the "dead Scotsman" sketch. The bowler hat featured in some the photographs belonged to Steve Hale's grandfather and now resides on top of a "very large polar bear's head" in Steve Hale's house in Colorado, USA.

Thanks to Andrew Elliott for the above photograph which started this off and thanks to Steve Hale for the other photographs.

A Trip to the Beach Summer 1974

A trip to the beach took place in Summer of 1974, somewhere between Scarborough and Bridlington.
With Bampton Cliffs in the background it could well be Filey.
