Delilah - 2 Years On

Hello all you greyhound lovers! Delilah here, living happily in Harrogate. It's been over two years since I wrote to Karen at the North Yorkshire Retired Greyhound Trust site to tell you about my life after adopting my new family.

My days are filled with a few walks every day, a few minutes playing with my stuffed hedgehog (a gift from my Aunt Mary in Pasadena, Maryland) and lots and lots of sleeping. After those first few months, and when I spent a couple days with a babysitter who spoiled me, I decided that sleeping on the sofa was much better than sleeping on the duvet on the floor. In fact, I'm spoiled so rotten, not only do I insist on the sofa, but I also need a pillow to go under my head.

I'm willing to lay on the floor next to the sofa and let one of my people scratch my neck and ears, but if they stop, I have to jump up on the sofa and lay across their laps. I love my family, but I love visitors, too. Especially anyone willing to cuddle with me and let me be the lap dog I want to be. Most days, I think I'm the same size as my friend Tilly, the Yorkshire terrier who lives up the street. I love going on trips with my family – car rides are great. Anytime I go for a ride, I get to do something fun at the end of it. There's always someone new who wants to pet me and talk about what a beautiful girl I am. But even when my family goes on a trip without me, I don't mind as long as I get to stay with my favorite little people – Taylor and Hunter. They live in Huby, and I get to stretch out and be petted almost non-stop at their house. They walk me often and give me treats. I get to watch them play their Playstation games. I'm going to miss them most of all when I go to the U.S. next month.

I almost forgot to tell you about my upcoming trip. My family is moving back to Maryland on the east coast in the U.S. We fly out in the middle of June. I have a giant-sized carrier and will be traveling with the baggage. The carrier is so big that Samantha would fit in it. I suggested that she ride in the carrier and I could curl up on the seat next to Marie, but no one else thought that was a good idea. Actually, my people are only a little concerned about the trip. I think I'll be fine. The airlines fly dogs and cats all the time, so they know what they are doing. And it's not complicated to fly into the U.S. Since we don't have rabies in the U.K., the U.S. doesn't have restrictions on the entry of pets.

I'm looking forward to meeting new people and other dogs when I get to the states. I'll be taking it easy on my walks this summer when I get to Maryland. It's hot and humid, especially in July and August when 95 degrees is considered normal, and I am not used to that. Since
I'm almost 9 years old, I have to be careful not to get overheated. I'll send an update on how I'm doing in Maryland once I get settled later this summer. I'm hoping for a house with a big fenced yard to sunbathe in, and maybe a squirrel to chase from it every now and
then!
