These are the jokes folks!

Wilf's just told everyone that he was outstanding for 80 minutes and should have been voted man of the match, as well as being named player of the season! A statement fully endorsed by the numerous officials he's on first name terms with and John Lake's right boot...........

Get in there you beauty!

Championies, Championies, away, away, away.
Poppleton to Heath do you receive me?

Dringhouses 1 Old Malton 4

07/05/05 - Old Malton finished there season on a high with a superb win over league champions Dringhouses to capture the York & District Senior Cup. With a strong wind blowing the length of the pitch it always looked like being a game of two halves. The opening 10 minutes were very even as both teams struggled to come to terms with the elements on a very exposed Poppleton pitch. The first real talking point came on 14 minutes when the Dringhouses midfielder Atkinson was lucky to stay on the field, his deliberate kick at Brown right in front of both the referee and linesman brought only a yellow card when a red was the order of the day. The resulting free kick was swung in at pace by Readman, Prichard getting in front of his marker to nod home past the helpless Conlon to put Old Malton in front. This seemed to rattle Dringhouses and more Old Malton pressure brought a deserved second 4 minutes later. Wilford’s inswinging corner was only half cleared to the edge of the box where top scorer Brown rifled home into the bottom corner. With the wind at their backs Old Malton were looking like taking the game away from their opponents, Richardson hitting an absolute screamer on 23 minutes just inches over the bar. Wilford’s left footed effort on 35 minutes had Conlon beaten all ends up, the half volley going agonisingly the wrong side of the post. Jacques had to be at his best 4 minutes before the break when Dringhouses broke well down their right, the end result going straight at him from 18 yards. A minute later it was Conlon again who denied Old Malton, Hill bringing out a stunning point blank save. Dringhouses finished the half well when a good shot was deflected for a corner right on the stroke of half time. The second half saw Lake and Lock introduced for Dringhouses as they changed their formation in an attempt to use the conditions and get back in the game. But a great run and cross from Richardson on 53 minutes gave Wilford a great chance to head his side further in front, his header going inches the wrong side of the post. With Dringhouses piling on the pressure they clawed their way back into the game on the hour mark. A free kick from the touchline deceived everyone and flew into the top corner to make the score 2-1 to Old Malton. Old Malton weren’t to be denied though when a superb break from defence by Shepherd down the left saw him knock in a great cross, Wilford’s presence saw the ball fall to Hill who smashed the ball under the keeper on 69 minutes. This seemed to deflate Dringhouses and they began to look like a beaten side. Their frustrations boiled over when Lake was lucky to stay on the pitch following a diabolical but predictable tackle on Wilford. Atkinson did finally get his marching orders for a cowardly attack on Brown, the Old Malton midfielder having to leave the pitch for lengthy treatment on a mouth wound. Walker and Thackray were brought on to replace Brown and Wilford as the game entered the last 10 minutes. Their fresh legs were just what the doctor ordered as they carved open Dringhouses twice in a great 5 minute spell. With the game 6 minutes into stoppage time, Hill put the icing on the cake when Drew sent Walker on his way down the right flank. The Old Malton striker showed his class when he left his marker for dead before slotting the ball under Conlon from 12 yards. Old Malton’s manager Kim Scott was extremely pleased with a fantastic team effort and was reluctant to mention individuals, but the midfield pairing of Brown and Drew plus a superb defensive display by Readman gained the plaudits.
