Thirsk’s Moor way to crown
Thirsk are the new Pilmoor Evening Cricket League champions following an exciting conquest of Newburgh. Thirsk needed to take full points from their fixture with Newburgh to ensure their first title since 1970, and were made to work hard before achieving a last-over victory. James Banks (49) was the top scorer in Newburgh's 108-7, P Taylor supporting with 22. Anthony Elders bowled a fine spell for Thirsk, taking 4-9 from five overs.
Thirsk's reply began badly as they slipped to 30-4, but Stuart Christon's 38 set up their victory with five balls to spare. Sheriff Hutton Bridge made sure of second place by winning at Easingwold. Adam Fisher made 46 and Ian Clish 31 as Bridge scored 132-6, Billy Gregory (2-32) and Paul Skilbeck (2-6) having the best returns. In the hosts' reply, John Hille made 22 and Mark Hunter 21, but Bridge took control through Mark Fisher (2-1), Andrew Senior (2-13) and S Naylor (4-18) as Easingwold slipped to 86 all out. Sessay's disappointing season ended in defeat at Acomb. Matthew Wass (27), Stuart Peirse (30) and Robbie Fountain (22) all showed form as Sessay made 105-7, while Harry Booth (3-6) and Steve Buckton (2-10) did well for Acomb. Scott Nicholls made 44 and Leon Sacks 31no as Acomb eased to 109-2. In the second division, Clifton Alliance took first innings against Helperby and owed much to Alex Renton (59) in their 125-6. But Helperby were up to the challenge and enjoyed a last-over win at 126-5. |
