 | What is U3A? U3A is a learning co-operative of older people which enables members to share educational, creative and leisure activities.
Why are we called the U3A? U3A stands for University of the Third Age. The Third Age refers to the period after full-time employment - there is no specific age limit.
Who can join the U3A? Anyone in the Third Age can join – all you need is interest and enthusiasm. We have members, not students. No qualifications are required and none are given.
What does Ryedale U3A offer? Ryedale U3A provides an opportunity for older people to rediscover the pleasures of learning with others. It helps to share skills, interests and companionship. A wide range of courses and group activities is available. These take place during daytime usually in a member’s home.
Among the topics currently available are: Art; Beginners’ Music Making; Book Club; Bridge; Classical Music Groups; Current Affairs; Family History; French; Geology; German; Greek; History of Art; Investment Groups; Latin; Literature; Mah-jongg; Needlework & Craft; Picture Making; Play Reading ; Poetry; Theatre Trips & Social Outings; Walking; Watercolour Painting; Yoga. There is really no limit to the range of topics available – it all depends on the enthusiasm and interest of our members.
Ryedale U3A also holds regular monthly meetings with a speaker – the topics ranging from Gardening to Philosophy…. All U3A study and activity groups are run by volunteer leaders. If you have a particular skill or interest which you would like to share by running a group, the U3A can provide the opportunity and offer advice. |
