The major part of our charity fund raising benefits local charities, but we also support a number of International projects, some in association with other Rotary Clubs.
In the 5 years to 30th June 2007, we raised over £70,000, which has been distributed to some 200 charities and good causes in the UK and abroad. Beneficiaries have included:
Royal Alexandra Childrens' Hospital, £3,000 this year Martletts Hospice, ongoing support.
We have also donated substantial sums to the Rotary Global Polio Eradication programme.
Following the Tsunami disaster in December 2004, in conjunction with the 5 other Rotary clubs in the Brighton & Hove area, we raised over £9,000 in a weekend of street collections.
Other charities that have been supported by the Club include: Alzheimers Society, the Brighthelm Centre, St. Patrick's Shelter, R.N.L.I., Whitehawk Children’s Centre, Patcham House, Ovingdean Hall and other Special Schools in Brighton and Hove, St. Dunstan’s, local housing projects, Hope and Homes (Africa, Romania, Kosovo), Impact Foundation and the Joe Homan Trust (Boys' Towns and Children’s Villages in India, with which we have personal contacts).
We also support local education programmes, including Youth Speaks, and have promoted Investment Games for local 6th Form schools.
The Rotary Club of Brighton Charitable Trust is a Registered Charity, and its Registered Charity Number is 803147. All Donations and Legacies that it receives are free of Inheritance Tax. Please contact us if you wish to leave us a Legacy in your Will, or wish to make a Lifetime Gift.
