What is a Community Building?
A community building is a building that is managed by a voluntary management committee, run for a public benefit and provides a range of activities for a range of users. It is a place where social activity is taking place. Community building/centres come in a great variety of shape, size, suitability and style and they are a testimony of the community spirit, enthusiasm and vision of people from different backgrounds, interests and abilities. These community facilities host a wide range of activities - clubs, meeting places for different sections of the community. Some have bars and some do not. Some are single purpose and care for a specific section of the community. Despite the different purpose and aims of the community centres, they all provide a focal point local residents to engage in meaningful activity and meet other people in their area.
