SFH's Contribution to the Ditchling Pond (7.7.02)
Herbert Alagaratnam writes of some of his cricketing memories :
'Out of the many cricketing stories, the one that has also made me laugh was the time that we had some new urinals fitted in the basement of the cricket pavillion. A stranger was seen wandering outside the washroom. A couple of our cricketers, I can't recall who they were - Alan Brown, Peter Geal maybe - went up to this guy to ask him what he was looking for and he told them that he was from one of the District or County offices and was there to inform us that some urgent corrective action was needed as the discharges were ending up in the Ditchling pond !
After most of Saturday's games a number of cricketers went over to one of the nearby Indian restaurants to enjoy Indian curries and Tandoori cooking. Sunday's game saw many of our cricketers red faced from the curry burn, dehydrated and full of wind. Our discussions after the matches often revolved around food and drink. It came as no surprise to me when one of our cricketers told me he thought - Earth, Wind and Fire was the name of an Indian curry !' Herbert Alagaratnam.
Thank you Herbert for those cricketing memories and I look forward to more from you and your friends so please spread the news. JH |
