Arson - Involving SFH Artefacts (2.5.03)
 | I see from this week's Middy that 'Children are being blamed for an arson attack that caused a raging inferno in Haywards Heath. Thick, acrid smoke billowed across Haywards Heath as firefighters battled against the fire at the derelict huts once used by the Nautical Training Corps behind estate agents Baker Fernau and Mark Revill in South Road. Carole Preston, town clerk, said ; 'We have been worried about it for some time because we knew children were breaking in and using it almost as a second youth club. They have been raiding it and bringing things out into the woods. It was previously used to house items from the Francis Museum and the artefacts were strewn all over the park. It's just a big game to them. We knew it was just a matter of time before it went up in smoke. It has been a considerable problem for some time.' JH |
