Reg Cook's first meeting with the late Mike Boyne (June 05)
Reg writes : 'It was 1972. I was a first year student nurse and had been allocated to H Block at Brighton General Hospital as my next ward. Upon arrival I was greeted by a tall, thin male nurse with a cheery 'Hello I'm Mike'. His long white coat was unbuttoned and he wore no tie.
Also on the ward was a newly promoted Charge Nurse, Chi Sing-Chong.Chi Sing had had several 'discussions' with Mike regarding the importance of 'image' and the need to wear a tie.
This went on for several weeks with no effect on Mike's dress code but Chi Sing persisted. Then, one morning at handover Mike appeared from the female ward wearing an enormous psychedelic bow tie and informed Chi Sing 'I'm wearing a tie Mr Chong'.
I hope this may be of interest to those who remember Mike. My everlasting memory will be that bow tie!.
Regards, Reg Cook.' |
