Vive Shoreham Harbour

Few places boast a harbour. We are fortunate to have one for it, more than anything else, gives the district its character. Our Association exists to promote the harbour & the communities around it.

Decisions affecting the harbour are made by the port management, by central & local government & by arms length government bodies like the South East England Development Agency (SEEDA). They are not made by residents’ associations like ours but we can still have part to play. We can focus local opinion & voice it loud & clear.

Our Association was founded in 1998 to promote the Moss Plan, one of many such that have been prepared for the area since World War II. Please see a separate page for more about Development Plans.

In recent years we & other local organisations have vigorously opposed any tampering with Southwick beach. We have also worked hard to tell all concerned that a new north-south transport link was essential for the long term prosperity of the port. We have tackled immediate issues such as dust from unsheeted lorries, happily now a rare sight.

All the organisations concerned with the harbour have websites that are immediately accessible from our links page. To learn the latest harbour news, the Shoreham Harbour Regeneration site is a good starting point.

Any organisation or individual is welcome in our Association. There is no subscription but we seek donations to cover expenses. Please contact our Secretary to join the Association. She is: Mrs June M Lucas,17 St Peter's Road, Portslade by Sea, BN41 1LS. Email : jm.lucas1@ntlworld.com

Meetings
We are thinking about the most effective way of achieving the Association's objectives & the traditional meeting may be less useful than it was. If you have a view about this please tell June Lucas, our Secretary, about it. Her address is above. At the time of writing, July 2010, we have no meetings planned for the immediate future. Our Links page includes links to the web sites of Shoreham Port itself & to Shoreham Port Regeneration.
