Richard III Society

The Sussex Group of the Richard III Society studies the life and times of Richard III. We meet on the third Wednesday of alternate months, starting in January, at 7.30p.m. The January and March 2009 meetings will be at Lancing Parish Hall, South Street, Lancing There is an adjacent car park (entrance in Chester Avenue) and train and bus stops are nearby.

The programme varies a good deal: there might be a talk from a member, a general discussion or an outside speaker - with or without a slide show! The range of subject matter is quite wide, within the total context of fifteenth century European history. In the summer we sometimes arrange a day's outing to a place of general historical interest, when families are invited and costs shared.
The group is small and friendly, and the extent of members' historical knowledge is variable. Some come because they want to share existing interests, others because they are at the beginning and want to know more.

We offer anyone the opportunity to attend for up to two meetings as a visitor, before deciding whether to join permanently.

To meet costs we are obliged to ask both visitors and members for an entrance charge of £1 per meeting attended. Should you decide to become a member of the group, there is a local, annual membership fee of £8.00, in addition to the fee for the national Richard III Society, membership of which is a requirement for group members.

If this appeals to you, do come and meet us. Alternatively,if you want to ask about anything first, please E-mail us and we will contact you.
