The Clergy and congregation of St Michael's Church welcome you to our all our services, details of which can be found on the "Services and current events" page. Future events and meetings are posted on the Event Calendar.
Southwick, for those who are not familiar with Sussex, is a small town situated on the West Sussex coast between Hove and Shoreham-by-Sea and administered by the Adur District Council. There is a shopping centre (known as The Square) and a green where cricket has been played since the earliest days of the game in the eighteenth century. There are some pubs, clubs, a recreation ground, leisure centre, floodlit football pitch, churches of many denominations, all kinds of sport including croquet (Southwick is home to The Sussex County Croquet Club) and a community centre where many activities regularly take place. Attached to the community centre is The Barn Theatre which has frequent concerts, operas, plays and other musical events staged by various amateur and professional societies and groups. The town of Southwick is in the diocese of Chichester and has two Church of England churches of which are as follows:-
St Michael's Church is to the west of the green and about a quarter of a mile from The Square (look for the finger post). Services are held in the mornings on most days of the week and an evening service is held on Wednesdays and on special days in the Anglican calendar.
St Peter's, Fishersgate is a Chapel of Ease in the eastern part of Southwick and is located to the south of the railway line, about half a mile from The Square. Regular services are no longer held at St Peter's but following the destruction of the nearby Leisure Centre, the church is now used for community events supported by the Churches Together in Southwick, an ecumenical association of Anglican, Roman Catholic, Methodist and Free Church. The Parochial Church Council are in the process of obtaining permissions to alter the building to provide the local area with an improved community centre as well as a place of worship.
The services and other events in the parish for the coming week are listed on the Services and Events page. A guide to the history of St Michael's Church has recently been written and copies can be obtained from the church office.
