Guidance On Control Of Johne's Disease In Dairy Herds
 | Defra's Guidance On Control Of Johne's Disease In Dairy Herds now Published, and Issued to TCCC UK on 17/09/2004.
A shorter leaflet on the Guidance Notes is also to be sent to Dairy Farmers, which will summarise the Key Points.
These are to be sent out on the week commencing 20 September 2004, in advance of the Formal Launch of the Guidance, in partnership with the British Cattle Veterinary Association (BCVA ), at the Defra stand of the Dairy Event at Stonleigh Park on Wednesday 22nd September 2004.A more Detailed Review of Johne's Disease will also be available on the BCVA website shortly.
This Guidance is an 11 page document and compiled by Defra - ADC Endemic Diseases & Zoonoses. T.C.C.C UK took part in this Defra Consultation in 2002 & 2004.
We now hope that these Guidelines are followed to Eliminate the Mycobacterium avium subspecies Paratuberculosis (MAP ) from the Animals & Environment, and to keep MAP out of the Human Food Chain.

Mycobacterium avium sub species Paratuberculosis ( MAP ).
 | Mycobacterium avium sub species Paratuberculosis.( MAP ).
MAP is transfered from one cow to another, from it's contaminated faeces. When the cows are inside barns, this enables the MAP bacteria to spread futher amongst the herd. Contaminated pastures also spread this MAP bacteria, to other cattle in the herd and other animals in the environment. Rain and run off that come from contaminated pastures infect rivers and water supplies. MAP survives a year in cow faeces, so it is around for a long time, to affect other animals, and pollute water supplies.
MAP then can transfer to humans via the Tap. MAP then can transfer to humans via Pasteurised Milk. MAP then can transfer to humans via Contaminated Meats. |
|
MAP In Your Milk Bottle.
 | In Belfast University over 5 % of the retail pasteurised milk was shown to carry MAP. It is suspected that the percentage is a lot higher in different areas of the Country. We know there are high rates of Crohns in South Wales and in Scotland.
We also know that 72 degrees for 25 seconds, the current pasteurisation temperature & time DOES NOT KILL MAP. Milk & Water must be boiled before consumption to stop you reinfesting your body with MAP, it can also be passed to humans via meat, so please COOK WELL, before consumption.
Unless you know from where your water comes, bottled or not, and if it has been treated to boiling temperature, please always boil it for your own safety. Using a kettle for a cup of tea, and pouring the unused water into a pyrex jug to cool down, and then place in the fridge for best taste, is the simplest way to deal with this.
The Dairy Industry claim that they will not boil their pasteurised milk , because it alters the taste,...or is it the cost to do it ?..................
