In the Summer of 1989 when Sarah was 29, she developed Eyeritis in her left eye, causing blured vision, a gritty feeling and a sensitivity to light. By early Autumn 1989 she had developed Eyeritis in both eyes. The treatment was to have an injection into the eyes to dilate the pupils. She then suffered with chronic diarrhoea, abdominal pains and had painful ulcerations on her tongue and in her mouth. As a young mother with 3 young children - the youngest was only 2, Sarah was physically and emotionally drained by her worsening health.

After consulting 2 doctors (GPs ), Sarah was finally admitted to hospital for tests and the worry at the time was that all the syptoms indicated the possibility of Bowel Cancer. There followed a series of different tests including Barium meals, A Barium Enema, X Rays and Endoscopy. The results of the tests confirmed that Sarah had Crohns Disease and Ulcerated Colitis. After some "shouting" she was immediately hospitilised for 5 weeks and tube fed with Pepti 2000 ( 8 to 9 Bottles every 24 hours ). Although her bowel condition improved she was suffering from chronic Anaemia, passing a lot of blood, diarrhoea, extreme pains in her stomach, and adominal areas, and she had to undergo blood top ups to stabilise her condition.

By March of 1990, her weight had dropped dramatically from 112 lbs (51kgs) to only 70 lbs (32kgs),her haemoglobin had dropped to 6 (it is now 12 to 13 ), she had thrush and ulcers in her mouth, also in her bowel, right through her digestive tract, and she nearly died.
When she came out of hospital finally, she was bed ridden and had to have a private nurse, (paid for by the social services) for 2 months. This allowed her husband Tim who was a Postman, to carry on working. At the time he was also pioneering his community security scheme across the Country with other "posties" in the Royal Mail, dealing then as now with a lot of enquires and media.

The following year, in August 1991 Sarah had another attack of Crohns, and had to have 2 further blood top ups. Her blood count now was just 6.2. Again she was experiencing extreme pain, exhaustion, and had to again stay in hospital. This put an extreme strain on the whole family, as the 3 young children had to carry on, knowing their mother was again in hospital - severly ill. When she was discharged, she came home, but this time there was no nurse to assist, and the family had to all "muck in" and cope the best they all could. Sarah would dress the children for school, whilst sitting on the toilet, going back to bed whenever she could. Her husband Tim had to keep on working to bring in the money to survive.

For the next 5 years, Sarah suffered constant flare ups although she was being treated with high dosage of steroids and because of these she developed Osteoporosis in her joints, and in her spine.She was however determined to avoid any surgery and having a Colostomy bag fitted, and continued with her medications, including steroids & (at one point she was taking nearly 30 tablets a day, which included 40 mg of steroid ).

In 1996, her new consultant suggested that she came off steroids and that she started on a programme of 6Mercaptopurine. She also took Salazapyrine as an anti- spasmodic medication, with iron tablets and strong pain killers. Sarah also had to take 8 to 9 cartons of Elemental 028 - a nutritional drink - every day. She was only allowed to eat sparingly, and was instructed to drink sterile (boiled ) water only. Then towards the end of this 5 year period, Sarah had to introduce a very bland diet of mainly Rice, Potatoes, Fish and Chicken and still drinking 4 to 5 cartons of Elemental 028 a day.

Despite this new regime, it never really made any difference to all the pain and suffering Sarah had to continue to experience. By this time she was now approaching the 5 year term,on the 6Mercaptopurine and this was going to have to be stopped. In the past , when Sarah's drugs were changed, it usually ment another flare up,a rush to the casualty department of the local hospital 9 miles away, and more blood top ups. Sometimes the stomach pains seemed like appendicitis, and she said that the normal cramp and pains were worse than any labour pains she had ever experienced............

In late 2001, Sarah's life changed dramatically for the better. By chance, she had been introduced to a natural health product - A strong Aloe Vera Gel Drinking Juice and within a month, she started feeling significantly better than she had done for the previous 12 years. Her energy levels increased and the pains she had suffered almost constantly for over 12 years receeded. The introduction to the Strong Aloe Vera Gel Drinking Juice followed an article written in the Daily Mail by Martyn Halle, done with Action Medical Research and Prof John Hermon-Taylor, and a contact was made by a Paul Taylor, who had read the article, and written to the family, who because of the total amount of mail and junk mail they received, never actually responded for 9 months. Sarah's husband Tim was more keen on answering the letters and helping those with Crohns.

After 4 months Sarah added more glyconutrients to her intake, an 8 glyconutrients powder called A*B*OTO*E ( see below ), this she took with her food everyday. As the science tells us about Aloe Vera, it enables the body to absorb nutrients. By putting the right amount of nutrients back into her body, this gave the immune system a chance to fight back. The immune sytem then goes on to destroy the bad cells in the body's system, enabling the good cells to correct the body. One of the nutrients in The Glyconutrient Powder is Aloe Vera. Sarah was also on Elemental 028, which is also a nutrient feed, which today has taken over from the Pepti 2000 she was on in her early days.

3 years later , Sarah is a completely changed person. The stomach and adominal pains, spasms, the bloating, constant diarrhoea, blood loss, the ulcers and the joint pains have gone, and her latest bone density scan has now revealed a significant improvement in her Osteoporosis condition.

Although she still has to have a blood test every 3 months because of the medication she is on ( immunesuppressants ), she feels that she is now able to lead a more or less normal life, but with a dramatically improved life style. She can now go out without having to worry constantly about where the nearest loo is. She drinks Aloe Vera Gel, and takes Calcium tablets alongside her medication, but there has been a significant reduction in the latter. Whereas she was on 4 to 5 cartons of Elemental 028 every day, now she does not take any and her tablets have been reduced from 28 to 4 a day.
Sarah also does not drink tap water or milk, without it being boiled first, because of the potential risk of bacterial infection. She also now uses an Aloe Vera toothgel ( without Fluoride because of it's potential toxic effects to the digestive tract, often the Fluoride will actually cause Ulcers ) from the same Aloe Vera company.

Sarah also takes another Aloe Vera Drinking Juice formulated with MSM, Glucosomine Sulphate, Chondroitin & Vitamin C ( for her Osteoporosis & her Bone Density ).
In addition she takes a Bee Propolis ( A natural antibiotic and antibacterial product, again from the same Aloe Vera company ) tablet every day. Sarah still takes one tablet of 6Mercaptopurine, and 2 iron tablets.

Thankfully, her latest tests show that there are no signs or symptoms of the Crohns Disease or Ulcerated Colitis. Additionally other tests have shown that she is now clear of Osteoporosis as well - it is now mild Osteopenia only.( she had severe Osteoporosis ). Her Haemoglobin, white cell and Platlet count are now all within the normal range expected of a healthy person, and her Liver & Kidney functions remain satisfactory.

Sarah has now started drinking organic soya milk, with calcium instead of Dairy products.

Sarah's husband Tim and their 3 children have been a source of constant support throughout her long illness, and Tim has become a tireless campaigner over the last 16 years on matters to do with Crohns Disease and other IBDs.

Pasteurised Milk Still Not Safe To Drink At All. (Cold ).
It has scientifically being proven that heating the pasteurised milk to over 90 degrees does not NOT Kill the MAP Bacteria, milk has to be boiled, as this campaign has always advised. It has been found that as previously thought 80 degrees might destroy the MAP bacteria, this only stuns the bacteria, it does Not kill it.

Sarah continues to remain without any sign or symptom of Crohns or Ulcerated Colitis. She still takes her Aloe Freedom everyday, with 2 calcium tablets, 2 iron tablets, and one 6mercaptopurine tablet. The amazing news at her last bone density scan, it again revealed that her skeleton, diagnosed as that of an 85 year old, with severe Osteoporosis, had now reverted to a skeleton with just very mild thinning, called mild Osteopenia. Her bloods were normal, her liver and kidney functions were normal.

Sarah still continues to show no sign of her Crohns or Ulcerated Colitis. Her blood tests were all normal, as are her Kidney & Liver results.She still drinks her Aloe Vera Freedom everyday, and takes 2 calcium, No iron now, half a 6mercaptopurine tablet and will be stopping taking this drug soon altogether. Her bones still continue to improve, and she will not be going for a Colonoscopy now.

Sarah continues to do well, her blood tests are coming back normal with her kidney & liver function tests, she is still drinking Aloe Vera Freedom - 30 mililitres everyday, with her 2 calcium tablets - perscription Calcichew, half a 6mercaptopurine tablet, along with these everyday she takes : 1 high strength Cod Liver Oil & 1 Evening Primrose Oil capsules, 1 Fields of Green tablet, and now trialling the Advanced Glyconutrient Powder as she is now going through the menopause. She is due to go for a bone density scan soon, that will hopefully show the continuing improvement to her mild Osteopenia. All these Alternatives can be decreased or increased if necessary with no side effects.
