In Loving Memory Of Hadge Elliott, 49 years old.
When
IBS is............
NOT IBS.
" My Husband Hadge didn't have
IBS, it's a long story, but I will try to cut it down at bit, he went to see his doctor in late
2003, with bloating and his motions had changed, which he told the doctor, no tests where done at this time, but the doctor told him it was
IBS, and put him on medication for
IBS, he was ok for about a
9 months then the
symptoms got worse, by this time we had moved to another area and changed doctor, but he was still being treated for
IBS, no tests had still been done to confirm it was or was not
IBS, by
Sept 2004 his symptoms had got progressively worse, he was given an internal examination, and then sent for a
barium enema, which as far as we was told, came back normal, by
Xmas 2004 he was worse and his doctor told him all the time it was
IBS, no other tests where done, by
April 2005 he was
losing weight and the doctor told him that the pain he was in was
all in his head because they couldn't find anything wrong, so they told him again
IBS, he was admitted to hospital in
a great deal of pain in
June 2005, where he was told it was
gastric, I changed his doctor in
July as his stomach had swelled to the size of a 8 month pregnant woman, but he was still
losing weight, his new
GP examined him and had him admitted to another hospital in the end of
July, he was diagnosed with
Bowel Cancer and advanced
Stomach Cancer on
Aug 2nd 2005, he died on
Aug 29th 2005, we then found out that his
barium enema he had the previous year hadn't coated the right side of his
colon, this can be normal in
50% of cases, but it can also be a sign that there is something wrong, but it was never followed up by his
GP, if it had been followed up with a
colonoscope or
ct scan they could have found the cancer in his bowel and possibly have saved him, so my message on
here is just to let people know if they have been diagnosed with
IBS, to please double check it, as my husband had all the symptoms of
IBS, but more, it was the negligence of an ignorant
Doctor that cost my husband his life, back in
April last year, she told my husband "
well we can rule out Cancer as the blood test came back normal", he only ever had
3 tests in
3 years a
barium enema,
a blood test &
a urine test, even though the last year of his life he was at the
Doctors 2/3 times a month."
" IBS does have similar symptoms as
Bowel Cancer, and it's always a good idea to get a second opinon, in my husband's case, it's now too late, but for others it isn't,....
Liz Elliott."
"If Anyone Else has the same problems as he did, and look again at their symptoms and find out if it is something more, then I will at least feel
Hadge's story went some way to helping someone else,
Hadge Elliott was
49 yrs old when he passed away, and I do hope that this can help someone else. I also looked into
Crohns etc, before we knew he had
Cancer, and put all these things to his old
GP, but she just wasn't interested, she was happy to fob him off with the easiest diagnosis, the internet is a great thing, if I had looked up
Bowel Cancer, I would have found the answer at my finger tips, but it's all hindsight, and hindsight won't bring him back to me, but if some one could put on these websites the symptoms of bowel cancer as well as
IBS and
Crohns etc, it will make people more aware of it, once again thanks for your time and good luck, and love to your wife, xx............
Liz Elliott."Hadge Elliott also left a daughter,4 sons, and 5 wonderful grandchildren.
