DEFRA Consultation Draft Aug 2002 & Now End Aug / Sept 2004
Following my complaint letter to the Prime Minister -Tony Blair in 2000, I was asked to take part in the DEFRA Consultation process " Draft Guidance On Control Of Johne's Disease In Dairy Herds" in August 2002.Defra have Now produced the "Draft Guidance On Control Of Johne's Disease In Dairy Herds" in May 2004.This document was to be issued to all Dairy/Cattle farms across the Country at the end of June 2004 ( now mid September 2004 ).This will mean a complete clean up of the Dairy Industry,to keep the MAP Bacteria, the cause of Johne's Disease in Cattle and Crohns Disease in Humans out of the Farming Environment.Pasteurised milk will have to be heated to a Higher Temperature, more than 72 Degrees for 25 seconds that it is heated to now. It will have to rise to 90 Degrees (over 90 degrees -Preferably Boiled- updated 17/11/2005 ).now for 30 seconds atleast to destroy MAP and make sure it does not end up in The Human Food Chain. Pasteurisation is the last line of Defence to protect Humans from this MAP Bacteria.
This Campaign does not attack the Farmers for the MAP problem, we blame the System/Management around the Farmers, who were the cause of the BSE/CJD problem.
Vast profits have been made over the years by the Dairy Industry, and the Supermarkets, from the Farmers. It is time to help pay for the Clean Up now, and Clear Up Their Mess !!!!!!
This MAP problem has been known about for many years, and left to carry on , infecting many herds of dairy and beef cattle, and now other species of animals, and the Environment, where everyday the MAP Bacteria survives for a year outside the cattle in it's faeces.Pastures and water supplies become contaminated. The MAP Bacteria came into this Country at the turn of the Century (in 1894) in a German Cow.It took till the 1930s to understand what was going on.
In the USA , this MAP problem was left and left, and it now not only affects the Dairy/Beef Cattle but many many other species of Animal,e.g bison, deer, cotton top tamarins etc..............
Hopefully now something will be Enforced to save the Lives of Humans , Their Misery and Severe Suffering in Agony and Pain, and the same in cattle and other animals. The rise in children alone, some under 5 years old, with Crohns is enough to warrant an immediate enforcement of these MAP controls.
