Taking the vaccine to clinical trial has to be a separate endeavour because of the scale of the funding required and because it is seen as ' development ' rather than pure research, albeit with a strong clinical benefit target.
The clinical trial initiative will cost a precise £1.5 million for GMP manufacture and toxicity testing alone.
The clinical trial stage itself will cost a further approx £1.7 million.
These are the real figures to date.
