QIGONG
QIGONG (Chi Kung) FOR HEALTH
Qigong is one of the oldest exercises in Chinese history, its origin dates back more than 1,000 years. It is derived from Taoist philosophy and based on the Traditional Chinese medical understanding of ‘chi’, the life energy inside a person, Its aim is to boost the body’s supply of Chi energy and to increase the efficiency of its storage and its flow around the body’s meridian system. The stronger a person’s chi, the more likely they are to maintain good health. A principle of Qigong is that "the mind leads the qi, and the qi leads the blood". This means that one uses the mind to guide and enhance the flow of qi through the meridians
Qigong translates as ‘Energy mastery’:
‘Qi’ – the breath of life
‘Gong’ – time spent acquiring a skill
Qigong (Chi Kung) is a system of self-help exercise for improving health, vitality, well-being and promoting longevity. In Qigong exercise there is much emphasis on breath control and visualization can be incorporated. Movements are soft, subtle and slow. Qigong exercises can be adapted to suit people with physical limitations and can be practised from a seated position when required.
The exercises are designed to increase, redistribute and balance the yin and yang energies of the body and to open the meridians, thus improving body condition as a whole.
People of all ages and abilities can practise Qigong. It does not require a lot of space, or the use of equipment.
