Community Heritage Access Centre
This innovative scheme, abbreviated to “CHAC” is provided by the South Somerset District Council, and is housed above the Museum of South Somerset, in Yeovil. The purpose of the Centre is to provide a pool of artefacts to which all museums in the area have access. So, in the event that a special exhibition is planned by one museum, or a visitor expresses a particular in-depth interest in a subject, each museum has access to a much wider range of exhibits and information, than if they relied on simply their own collection. Long term this much wider collection will be recorded on a website, so participating museums can readily check just what they can produce.
