STOKELAKE RESIDENTIAL SCHOOL

Stokelake School was to be found on the A38 at the junction with the B3193, Chudeigh in Devon.

The building that was to become Stokelake School was owned by Mr. M. C. Spedding the owner of the Rocklands School at Chudleigh and Pitt House School at Torquay, he was also Chairman of Torquay United Football Club in the mid 60's.

The school consisted of a main building with , Dining come Tv and Cinema room , Dormatory Block, Shower House and Library. The Class-room block was seperate to the main building , and had seven Class-rooms in total. The Gymnasium was situated just up from the Class-room block and stood just off the driveway that led up to the farm.

Today this site is a holiday complex and goes under the name of FINLAKE , and the old Stokelake infrastructure has been demolished, with the exception of what was the school's main office.

Many of the House Masters and Teachers from this period are unfortunately no longer here, and hopefully having a site like this will help in keeping their memories alive.
Sadly. there are ex-pupils that are no longer here, but their names live on here also.

At any one time Stokelake held 120 pupils. The School closed in 1981.

Pitt Houes School closed down on May 15th, 1984.
