Spot the difference!
After years of waiting, French Weir Park has finally got a make over. Over the winter, TDBC built a fantastic new all-ages play area and brilliant kindergarten after consultation with the Friends, North Town school and other organisations. It opened in the spring to much excitement, and has been packed full of happy kids (and parents) ever since. On the site of the old kindergarten is a double boules piste, nearly finished at time of writing, which is available for all to use - just bring your boules. As part of the £10,000 Breathing Places project, the Friends group will be providing 2 new wooden benches near the boules piste, so you can relax and look at the scenery while waiting for your turn. Other Breathing Places work includes the new bat & bird boxes installed last winter (already in use, I have been informed), new nature information boards, a new path and improved viewing area by the riverside, to be completed before the summer holidays. The Friends also successfully gained funding to provide a community notice board near the weir, so keep an eye out for more news about events, clubs and park developments. You may have noticed some activity along the scrubby bank of waste ground near the French Weir Avenue entrance. The Friends have formed a Guerilla Gardining group, who are reclaiming this area with the help of local residents and volunteers. If you'd like to get involved, please get in touch. |
