THE LOCAL TAUNTON GROUP OF ADVANCED MOTORISTS (TGAM)
IAM DRIVING ROAD SAFETY
Welcome to the
TAUNTON GROUP of ADVANCED MOTORISTS
(TGAM)
WHY do we exist ?
The Taunton Group of Advanced Motorists (TGAM), along with the many other affiliated Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM)Groups, mainly exist to help promote improved Driving Skills and Road Safety issues throughout the British Isles. The Taunton Group (one of twenty nine Groups in this region) mainly cover central Somerset and surrounding areas.
We, as the elected Committee and with our Qualified Observers, are all unpaid volunteers who want to help any interested party to improve their ability, awareness, car control, observation skills, etc.
We genuinely want you to achieve a higher level of driving standards, and continue to use those new found skills for your own safety and for the safety of others on todays ever increasing busy and congested roads.
Once your application to IAM head office (see the links page) has been accepted, you will be given a choice of Groups to approach within your local area. An Observer will be allocated and mutually convenient times are arranged to undertake observed drives, in your own vehicle, which usually last about one to one and a half hours. The drives will contain all the elements of different types of roads and conditions, incorporating town, surburban, country lanes, fast A roads, dual carriageways, motorway, etc.
Your Observer will offer guidance throughout all these drives, and when you are at the required IAM Advanced Test level, you will take the test under the appraisal of an IAM appointed Examiner who holds a Class 1 Police Advanced Driving Certificate. When successful, you will receive a pass certificate and be proposed for FULL IAM membership.
