Join the "Friends" to support the Restoration Project

The objective of the “Friends of the Blackwater Literary Institute” is solely to raise funds, initially for the restoration and reopening as a village hall, but later for the continued sustainability of the community building. Unless activities at the village hall are restricted only to those that are financially viable, continued fund raising will be needed to support the hall.

During this period where enthusiasm for the project is high amongst villagers the “Friends” gives an opportunity to harness that support and build upon the community aspects of the project.

Whereas the Institute was run as a private members club, with membership fees supporting the operation of the Institute, the new facility will be open to all residents, with no membership fees.

It is proposed that membership of the “Friends” would be open to all residents and anyone else who was interested in supporting the village hall project, for payment of a minimum donation of £1. Of course those that wished to give more would be warmly welcomed and all would be encouraged to do so, but it is important that those that cannot afford to contribute more should not be excluded. If for any reason the restoration of the Institute does not take place you have the option of your donation being returned or used for another mutually agreed village project

Only the Steering Group Treasurer and Secretary would know the extent of any individual donation, although significant contributions would be included, with their agreement, on a list of donors to be displayed in the hall following reopening.

The formation of the “Friends” will take one of the burdens off the Village Hall Management Committee, and at this point the elected officers of the Steering Group.

A representative of the “Friends” will be a member of the Management Committee in the same way as regular user groups of the Institute will elect a representative.

Print off a membership form today and help provide a village hall for Blackwater.
