Gwent Show Their Steel

Llanwern Golf Club played host on Tuesday 11th September to this re-arranged Annual Fixture between Gwent Captains and Somerset Captains. This was the 20th meeting between the two County Captains teams and with this 5 - 3 win to Gwent the margin of wins has been shortened to 10 for Somerset and 8 for Gwent with 2 matches halved over that period.

These are always well supported games and the spirit that they are played in is excellent. The results are secondary to the goodwill and fine camaraderie that has been established over the years between the teams. Long may that continue.

In their closing speeches both Captains were full of praise for the warm andfriendly welcome they received from Llanwern Golf Club and this was met with loud applause from all the Captains.

Match 1

The Captains Party were too quick off the ground to get their photo taken but here is a shot of them enjoying a little refreshment on the patio after their game.

The Blooming Cup

Here we see the Gwent Captain, Geoffrey Jenkins, recieving the alternative trophy from Colin Davis the Somerset Captain after it was noted that the Secretary had forgotten to include the magnificent Cup among the items he handed over at the start of the day.

My appologies to Gwent Captains.... the trophy... yes the real one... will be with you shortly.

Many Thanks

Thank you Llanwern Golf Club for hosting this match and making such a good job of it.
