Ringing In The Changes
 | Somerset Golf Captains A.G.M. held at Bath Golf Club
on Thursday 13th September 2007
At the conclusion of an excellent day’s golf some 40 or so members were present at the A.G.M. We were pleased that Club President Stewart Edwards and Club Captain Peter Sibley were able to be with us.
There were numerous apologies for absence and everyone was aware of Trevor Jenkins sad loss of his wife Joyce and sympathies were expressed and we were sorry he was not able to be with us on what was to be his handover of duties day.
1. Trevor had provided his Secretaries Report on the year and this was read out by Brian Reeves and accepted by all present.
At this point (as Trevor had noted) the Bath Golf Club, through their President and Captain, were thanked for hosting today’s event. The Greenstaff were congratulated on the presentation of the course whilst the Bar and Catering staff were thanked for their excellent service
2. A further report from Trevor covered the financial position of the Society which has a healthy bank balance. A resume of our previous end of year figures was read out for comparison. In presenting Trevor’s report the President, Charles Carr pointed out that with rising costs a decision had been made by the committee that match fees next year would be £25 in order to keep pace with the upward trend of costs. The income from the Spring and Autumn meetings is an important factor in our activities as the ‘profit’ enables such things as the Dinner to be subsidised. The proposal was accepted and as our last match had only been 2 days beforehand the final accounts will be available for inspection at the Spring Meeting in April 2008. The report was accepted by all present.
3. Brian Reeves had presented Club Captain Peter Sibley with a cheque during the prize presentation in gratitude of the use of the Course for this event.
4. Colin Davies then presented his Captain’s Report on all the matches and his personal record which those present thought was commendable. Unusually we had a couple of matches postponed one due to weather and the other due to a closure of the M4 but we had managed to re-arrange them and finish the programme. He wished his successor John Chillington all the best for 2008.
5. Election of Officers.
President:- Charles Carr Prop. K. Hinchliffe. Sec. D. Andow
Vice President:- Trevor Jenkins Prop. C. Carr Sec. J. Scott
Hon.Sec. & Treasurer:- Brian Reeves Prop. C. Carr Sec. R. Laband
Captain 2008:- John Chillington Prop. C. Davies Sec. C. Carr
Captain Elect:- Ben Gliddon Prop. J. Chillington Sec. P. Clements
Colin Davies then handed over the Captain’s Chain of Office to John Chillington with instructions to wear it with pride – or pay the fine!
In return John presented Colin with a suitably engraved tankard as a memento of his year in office as Captain.
6. There was no official A.O.B. but it was mentioned that the Spring Meeting will be at Wells G.C. on Thursday 17th April 2008.
Also good wishes were expressed to The Mendip and Worlebury Golf Clubs who both celebrate their Centenaries in 2008 and our Society will have matches with them.
Finally was the reminder that our Annual Dinner at Taunton Rugby Club will be on Friday 25th January 2008 and tickets will be £20 per head. A good night out is promised and Clubs are advised to book a table a.s.a.p. to avoid disappointment.
The meeting closed at 7 p.m.
