Simply The Best
 | 46th Annual Dinner
On Friday 25th January the Somerset Golf Captains held their 46th Annual Dinner at the popular Taunton Rugby Football Club and this was once again a roaring success and a complete sell-out.
The dining room was very tastefully decorated with fresh flowers adorning each table and table napkins proudly displaying the Somerset Captains colours in grand style. This was appreciated by the Annual Dinner Committee and much admired by the Somerset Captains and a credit to TRFC.
Guests from Hampshire, Surrey and Sussex were introduced to the assembled Captains by Toastmaster Chris Hocking and applauded on taking their seats at the Top Table and Annual Dinner Table. The show was then well and truly under way.
Reservations shown by many of the Captains over the starter course of local Smoked Eel on a bed of horseradish and potatoe salad, were soon dispelled as every plate was returned to the kitchen without a crumb to be seen with many having sampled Eel for the very first time. This was a tribute indeed to the excellent choice of dish.
The main course of local Roast Rump of Lamb rubbed with Garlic and Rosemary served with a Leek Gratin and a Salad combo was equally well received by all as was the desert of Glastonbury Pudding followed by Cheese & Biscuits, Coffee & Mints rounded off a splendid banquet that had a local touch to each course.
Compliments were paid to Chef, Tony, his team of Pat, Tracey and the many cheerful and competent waitresses, and the rest of his kitchen staff, for the content of the menu, the quality, presentation and service throughout the evening.
The Guest Speaker was Vic Waters, President Elect of The Society of Surrey Golf Captains, who kept everyone amused with his anecdotes and references to many of his experiences over the years. Being the exuberant and jovial chap that I know him to be there was always going to be a little stick thrown in my direction but thankfully nothing too injurious, in fact, he even promoted me to PC Plod. Vic is an active member of West Byfleet Golf Club, the home Club of Laura Davies, and he works tirelessly raising much needed funds for many charities.
Congratulation and Thank you Vic for your humourous and entertaining contribution towards the success of our evening.
More to be added so look in again
