Somerset On Top at The Mendip
 | The Mendip Golf Club, in this their Centenary Year, were the perfect hosts for this annual fixture on the Tuesday 10th June 2008 and the course could not have been better presented than it was on this bright and sunny day.
It was a pleasure meeting up with so many of our colleagues who have represented both County Captains’ Teams since the first match played in 2003 at Farnham Golf Club. We send our best wishes to Colin Mulford and Neville Snazel, Secretary and Immediate Past Captain of Surrey Captains respectively, who were both unable to join us this time round.

The Captains Party
 | The match got under way with John Chillington, Somerset Captain, and Partner Mike Curtis playing Tony Bennett, Surrey Captain and Charles Davis and this was a closely contested game from the start but it was the strong finish by the home pair that gained them the win.
In the frame are Charles Davis, Mike Curtis, Tony Bennett and John Chillington. |
|
Match 2
 | Chris Warcup and Adrian Lawrence were the Somerset pairing who played David Hutchinson and Keith Hunter of Surrey and on this warm day it was again the home duo who came out on top.

Match 3
 | David Jenkins and Colin Davies were not so lucky playing against John Knight and Stan Idell for Surrey so this gave the visitors their first win of the day.
In the frame are John Knight, David Jenkins, Colin Davies and Stan Idell.

Match 4
 | When Terry MacFarlane and Bill Hawker, for Somerset, failed to match the play of Jack Lambert and Ian Snell, Surrey added to their success leveling the match at two games all. This was yet again fairly even for much of the round.
In the frame are Ian Snell, Bill Hawker, Jack Lambert and Terry MacFarlane. |
|
Match 5
 | John Martin and Brian Cherry restored the advantage for Somerset Captains by overcoming a strong challenge from John Graves and Richard Kennett for Surrey.

Match 6
 | Steve Parker and David Rigby increased the lead for Somerset beating George Thorne and Phil Herbert by a narrow margin.

Match 7
 | Brian Reeves, Secretary, and Martin Rotheram put the match to rest with a win over Bob Green and Vic Waters of Surrey.

|
Match 8
 | This match was held up due to the Surrey duo of Ashley Havinden and Peter Chorley were delayed on the A303 so the Somerset pairing of Trevor Jenkins and Jim Tame played the first nine holes unchallenged and, having never lost a hole, were nine up at the turn. However, they met stronger opposition when the two Surrey players, all refreshed and raring to go, were waiting for them on the 10th Tee. Needless to add that the Surrey duo managed to hold on to a one hole lead at the 18th.
