A Poor Turnout By Somerset Captains

This match was a welcomed addition to our calendar, very well organised by the Host County, Berkshire and played at Newbury and Crookham Golf Club on Thursday 12th June. The eventual winners were Dorset Captains and the best pair were Charles Foster and Martin Jakes, again from Dorset. By turning up three players short, the worst attendance Somerset Captains have experienced for well over twenty years, meant that we were not able to compete against the other three Counties who were all at full strength with 12 players each against Somerset Captains 9. We have close on 600 members so if you know why we could only turn up with 75% of a team then please let us know because there is no use in adding matches to our calendar if they are not fully supported. Serious thought will have to go into the validity of this additional fixture and it will be discussed at the next meeting of the Executive Committee. Your input is important. That said then we congratulate Dorset Captains on winning this inaugural match and also thank Colin Tushingham for organising the event.
