Worlebury Golf Club looking Great.

On Wednesday 17th September Worlebury Golf Club, in their Centenary Year, played host to the Somerset Golf Captains for their Autumn Meeting and AGM and those who took part in the competition were full of praise for the progress made on the course in recent years and the Captains were grateful for having the use of the course for this event. The weather was equally as kind with rain threatening to fall early on but thankfully it turned out to be quite a warm and at times sunny day.

This competition was, as usual, a Chinese Stableford with pairings arranged as the Captains arrive so choosing your partner is not an option.

Without dwelling on the negative too long it must be said that this was possibly the lowest turnout ever at an Autumn Meeting and if you can throw some light on the reasons why then the Secretary would be pleased to hear from you. Come on you Past Captains, this is a great chance to meet your colleagues, enjoy the occasion and indulge in the cammaraderie that is always so prevalent when like minded Captains meet.

Scoring was not too easy for some but there were others who made light work of totting up the points. Several pairs managed to do better than others so the final result was as follows:-

In third place were Mick Bovingdon and Rob Smith with 40 point one point behind George Davis and Mike Newell who were runners-up to the winners, incoming President, Trevor Jenkins and Gordon Britton who managed 42 points. They won the Silver Tankards and Crystal Tankards.

George Davis won the Mike Griffith Trophy, the best aggregate points total over the Spring and Autumn meetings, just pipping Mike Newell & Trevor Jenkins.

The golf was rounded off with a fine meal provided by Steve Williams and his Catering team who looked after us so well and the bar staff were also thanked in the speeches.

These are just a few of the photos that were taken around the Clubhouse prior to the AGM.

There was a short interval before the Annual General Meeting took place.
