It has been a very busy year for our branch, we have travelled to Plymouth for the 60th anniversary of the Battle of the Atlantic service, and may I add one of the best events this branch has attended. Thank you Plymouth looking forward to this years event. again the branch travelled to Weymouth Veterans service and the parade of standards, and of course the MN Tower Hill Service in London all these trips were well attended. The highlight of the year was our own service of remembrance on November the 11th 15 standards were on parade three arrived from forien climes one from Immingham Humberside one from Plymouth, and Southeast Cornwall's. The dignitaries in attendance were the deputy Lord Lieutenant in full ceremonial dress, the Mayor and Lady Mayoress, our very own President Leslie Thomas, a deputy for Paul Flynn MP, the leaders of the City Council and the Oppesition and members of the National executive of the Merchant Navy Association. This branch was also represented by the Secretary at the National Arboretum for the laying up of the National Standard which this branch has had the privilege of hold the post for twelve months, also on that day the unveiling of the Merchant Navy Memorial. |
