About MFLA
Maesglas Family Learning Association (Also known as MFLA) are a small not-for-profit community group with BIG ambitions, making a BIG impact in Newport City, South Wales.
Started by a handful of ordinary people from Maesglas, Newport, but now grown into a city-wide organisation; MFLA now employs staff and has an office strategically placed in the middle of Newport's thriving business community:
The group deliberately chose to open their office in the heart of the business community because as a small charitable group run by ordinary members of the community - they wanted to learn from the professionals at Newport and Gwent Enterprise and are now members of the Newport Chamber of Commerce.
MFLA is run by members of the local community and is the brainchild of Beacon Prize For Wales 2005/6 Award Winner Kerryanne Jacobsen Okezie. This prestigious award was given to Kerryanne for her leadership of MFLA and the community-led regeneration programme in Newport, South Wales. This award is particularly important to Kerryanne (and the organisation) because it recognises her work and commitment to family learning in her local community and also gives Maesglas Family Learning Association the recognition it deserves.
