I had the great privilege to meet and talk to the late Ashley Cunningham-Boothe, who was collating the illnesses and deaths from illnesses, of Korean War Veterans due to the Korean War. I suffer from a lot of the illnesses that Ashley was investigating i.e., Emphysema, Kidney complaints, Arthritis, Angina, Heart Attacks, Strokes, etc. Ashley was concerned about the use of Biological and Chemical Warfare on the North Koreans: http://free.freespeech.org/americanstateterrorism/koreagenocide/KoreaBioWarfare.html http://www.indiana.edu/~iupress/books/0-253-33472-1pr.html I served in Korea from 1952-54 and we breathed in the pesticide DDT when it was sprayed on the paddy fields by aeroplane. This is now a banned substance: http://www.epa.gov/history/topics/ddt/01.htm A lot of troops suffered from shell shock (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder). This was known about from WW2, but no treatment was offered: http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=Veterans+PTSD&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en&btnG=Google+Search&meta We also know that the MOD was also experimenting with Biological and Chemical Warfare, from the inquest at Porton Down: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/wiltshire/3687407.stm I live in Southport and have asked our MP, Mr J Pugh, to lobby Parliament for top quality healthcare for all BKWVs. Please can all BKWVs and their families send me an e-mail asking for the same, which I can then forward to Mr Pugh? My e-mail address is bill_alvey@hotmail.com Thank You, Bill Alvey

Book Title: Battleground Korea The British In Korea Author: Charles Whiting ISBN: 0-7509-2085-8 I found this book about the Korean War to be an excellent read. Despite the book’s title it actually covers the parts undertaken by all of the UN forces. The book (priced at £19.99, $36.00) is factual and yet gripping and I could not put it down until I had read all of its 174 pages. My local library had a copy so you might try your local library. If anyone tried to e-mail me after the message I left on your message board, I had a problem with my e-mail so I did not receive any. Please try again? Kind Regards, Bill Alvey T/22653299 78 Company Royal Army Service Corps

I was a driver with 78 Coy RASC in the Korean War from April 1952 to April 1954. Our main training was carried out at Yeovilton, Somerset. We sailed out on the Empire Estoria. In Korea we were based at Middle School, Seoul. I spent two weeks in the Britcom General Hospital in Kure, Japan prior to disembarking. We started out on the Empire Windrush before having to get off in Singapore, due to engine problems (the Windrush continued its journey and sank due to an explosion in the Engine Room), and completed our return journey on the Empire Orwell. Does anyone have any recollections of these events? Regards, Bill Alvey
