1011(Amesbury) Sqn Air Training Corps (ATC) is urging adults with a sense of adventure and few spare hours to challenge themselves and get in touch. Adult staff are needed for 1011(Amesbury) Sqn to help develop the ‘Next Generation.’
The ATC is a vibrant challenging voluntary youth organisation which prides itself on offering opportunities for all, whether uniformed or civilian, adults are needed to help meet the needs of the organization’s 40,000 cadets of which over 30 attend 1011(Amesbury) Sqn.
Cadets and staff get involved in a range of exciting activities such as flying and Gliding, the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme and seven major sports. Many cadets get to fly before they drive a car!
Fg Off Membery Officer in Command of 1011(Amesbury) Sqn says ‘We have an open door policy for recruitment not only for cadets but also for adult members of staff. Anybody who would like to contribute some of their time and skills towards supporting an excellent organisation allowing teenagers to learn more skills and gain greater experiences of life should contact us and on top of all this adults often get the same opportunities.”
Fg Off Membery currently has a team of 3 members of staff who do a tremendous job in supporting the squadron but to enable him to provide greater support he would welcome new members to the team whether it be as civilian instructors or uniformed members of staff.
Adult staff have a crucial role within the organization, as without them the Air Cadets could not offer the vast range of activities it does. As well as helping cadets realise their potential, adult staff can also gain valuable academic qualifications and leadership skills which are highly valued by employers.
So what exactly is the secret of helping young people to become high flyers? Air Commodore Gordon Mould, Commandant Air Cadets, said: “Air Cadets aged 13 to 18 are given the chance by our team of staff and adult volunteers to learn to fly aerobatics, learn skills to lead expeditions, tour foreign countries, become target shooting marksman, join a band, learn about aviation and aerospace - only a small list of the many activities and opportunities for an enviable social life with many new friends. To provide and channel this energy to thrive is where working with a youth agenda and challenging activities really has to hit a personal chord. The ACO is continually searching for likeminded high calibre adult volunteers to keep us at the top of our game, as one of the top youth organizations in the United Kingdom”.
Getting involved as an adult instructor and helping shape the future of tomorrow’s leaders is easy. Anyone who has a few spare hours a week is welcome in the Air Cadets.
