Our History

All Cannings, is a small rural village near Devizes in the Pewsey Vale, Wiltshire. We have about 650 inhabitants, a pub, a church, a primary school and a shop with a sub-post office.

The cricket club was formed in 1988 and has an ever-improving cricket square, a small pavilion (built by the members) and about 30 playing members.

Prior to 1992, Gareth Williams was asked to set up a youth section, having been prominent in coaching football and other sports at our local school. This he did. Then in 1993, two club members - Andrew Saye and Bob Holman, took up the mantle.

Our youth section has always flourished. In the early days there were only a handful of local children. In 2001 we had over 45 youth members - 2002 sees us with over 70 registered junior and youth members!

Initially willing, but unqualified, helpers carried out the coaching. In 1998 Bob Holman became a fully qualified ECB coach. We now have two qualified ECB coaches (a level 1 and a level 2, the latter also being Chairman of the Wiltshire Association of Cricket Coaches and who also coaches a youth county side).

We run U11, U13 and U15 youth sides, each with their own manager, who all benefit from quality winter indoor, and weekly outdoor coaching in the summer.

In 1995 we founded and continue to help to co-ordinate an U13 Village Cricket league. This has now increased to 8 teams and has developed into the U13 Kennet Cricket League. In 2001 we were 3rd in the league, in 1998 we won it and in 1999 and 2000 we were runners-up.

Since 1993 eight of our youth have represented Wiltshire (U13 to U19 X1’s), two of them captaining their sides, and another going on to play for the Wiltshire Development X1 (formerly known as Wiltshire Senior 2nd X1). In 2001 one of our youth members was in the West of England squad. We will work hard to continue these successes.

Many ‘ex’ juniors now compete to play in our senior league side, which fought hard and won promotion to a higher division in 2001.

Our aim is to continue to teach children of all abilities the skills of our great national game and to help them to enjoy the pleasures of cricket and all that it stands for.

If you wish to join our club, then please contact Bob Holman at his contact numbers or email address below. For insurance purposes you will need to join the club before you qualify for coaching. This occurs: indoor - adults and youth, Sunday evenings during April and May, and outdoor on Tuesday evenings at the ground.
Please see our main website below for more details.
